KORBOTURBINA

Innovative training for managing multicultural schools

Europe is becoming more and more a multicultural environment, with a mix of multi-ethnic societies. This process comes both from a more integrated Union and the right of EU citizens to move within the EU, but also due to migratory flows from not-EU countries. With more than 1 million migrants arrived by sea in 2015, almost 34,900 by land (source: IOM) and more than 150,000 migrants already arrived by sea in 2016 (source: UNHCR), and considering that the number of asylum seekers out of the total arrivals was of 627,000 in 2014 and close to 1.3 million in 2015 (EUROSTAT), it is very evident that European societies are experiencing significant changes. These data are also a signal that the EU is becoming more attractive for those persons looking for better life conditions or leaving their own Country due to economic/political difficulties. Moreover, these figures do not take into account the legal migration, e.g. not-EU persons legally living and established in European Union.

The project partners strongly believe that migration is a common opportunity and enriches society through cultural diversity, but at the same time it may produces new situations difficult to be managed, especially at school level. In a multicultural society, teachers have to face new challenges and cannot limit anymore their activity to traditional and top-down methods, which risk to be no longer effective. They need to go beyond the text-books, ready to address issues of controversy, holding an intercultural approach and learning new ways to manage multicultural environment and potential shortcoming emerging in classrooms among students or among teachers/students. The proliferation of multicultural classes may crash with a low number of prepared teachers and school staff.

 The "Fabula Loci"

You are invited to contribute by taking a part in the cultural project.

One of the most interesting elements of this common heritage is represented by the articulated "world of fairy tales." The fairy tale is a story coming from the past. It speaks of ancient times, and so maintains all the charm of the elsewhere, but also sets elementary paths of existence involving all mankind.

The "Fabula Loci" project is aimed to the formation of an European consciousness develop creativity and increase the operational activities of the group of partners to spread the knowledge of territories and history, to improve collaboration and civic responsibility, to provide support for the development of innovative programs and valorize the European intangible cultural heritage.

The project intends to exchange experiences and best practices engaging the network of municipalities, city museums, universities, cultural organizations of local authorities in field of promoting knowledge on common history illustrated in folk tales as cultural heritage. Development of methodology to motivate a whole spectrum of participants. The bottom up strategy will be applied encouraging citizens to handle themselves intercultural cooperation with understanding and enjoyment of the values, rights and opportunities created by the EU.

Action 2.2: Network of Towns
Title of the project: Working for Environmentally Educated Towns- WE- NET
Duration: 24 months (01.07.2015 – 30.06.2017)

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of this project is to establish a network of municipalities and towns from different regions across Europe to work together on environmental sustainability. The recycling theme promoted by this project plays a pivotal role within the overall sustainable development agenda. Environmental pollution is not an issue just for one state or municipality, but it is a problem with global impact on population. Regarding the environment there are no borders between states. Recycling is relevant for promoting sustainable development. The main objective is to mobilize citizens for cooperation between municipalities and towns from different state, to discuss about the relevance of recycling for their society and for their future generations. The project brings together people from 8 countries coming from economically, historically and culturally different countries representing a great opportunity to work together on issues of mutual concern and exchange ideas. The biggest emphasis will be on young people because they are the future of Europe, they must make the difference for a better and more sustainable world. Young citizens will contribute as protagonists to the discussion on the topics foreseen. The project seeks to initiate discussion on the subject as well as promoting active participation, providing a platform to voice citizens’ opinions. Collaborative organisation and partnerships with municipalities, educational facilities, like-minded institutions and businesses, and community organisations is seen as crucial to maximise reach and impact of the project.
